is something you expect for the next several months. reporting live in downtown san rafael. amber lee, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> along the coast, caltrans crews have been busy trying to stabilize a known trouble spot in san mateo county. the crews have been trying to mitigate the erosion. traffic was reduced to one lane between linda mar and pacifica and the north portal bridge area of devil slide. and in the santa cruz mountain crews are still trying to shore up vine hill road in scotts valley. county officials say restoring at least one lane is a top priority because it's a crucial connection to highway 17 and the silican valley. crews told us they wanted to get that lane open by today but now the hope is it will stay open by tomorrow afternoon. >>> live storm tracker 2, showers north of the area. san rafael as you just saw. you can see most of the activity the real heavy stuff is up here north of sacramento. it's coming a little closer. we head out toward the north bay. that's where the heavier showers have been. they've been moderate to light. santa rosa, but you see it's widely scattere

hydrant. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega is live on sandhill road with a look at the flooding and how traffic is being affected. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. well, actual iy, this intersection at sandhill and el camino just opened up about tree minutes ago -- three minutes ago. work crews were trying to work quickly to get this cleaned up because this road is used to get on 280. this whole area was flooded for the past five hours because a hydrant was shooting water into the air. here is a look at this guiser. officers say just before 1:00 a.m., the driver lost control and hit the fire hydrant and kept driving. police caught up with him and arrested him for suspected dui. it took several hours for public work crews to shut off the water because they had a hard time getting to the valve. >> at first, the guiser was about 50 feet high. it was a constant stream of water. it flooded the roadways where we stopped traffic going westbound and we had to block off eastbound traffic as well so the cars would not hydroplane or anything like that. >> reporter: th

will continue to earn there. noelle. >> reporter: ktvu has learned starting next year james quan will continue to work with the port for a period of 7 months, essentially as a consultant. a port spokesman says he'll be a retiree annuitant. working with transition. this is the same james quan who earlier this month along with former port executive director agreed to pay back more than $5000 they spent at strip clubs and charged to the port of oakland. we spoke via skype with kelly who teach business ethics at uc berkeley. >> given the egregiousness of the allegations against him and his team, it seems shocking they would want to continue to associate with what i think is a damaged brand. >> reporter: the port announced his retirement earlier this month on the same day it released an internal audit and investigation that revealed some of the credit card holders skirted spending limits. $60,000 in questionable gifts they may violate laws. warren will earn $109 an hour based on his $214,000 salary. quan retires from the port with pension benefits but it's unclear if he'll collect a pension and pay

for traffic. live in daly city, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. >>> hours ago in hayward several people ran to escape flames at an abandoned pago t building. this happened about three hours ago off dixon and copperfield avenue. ktvu's tara moriarty is here now. you got there shortly after the fire started. you talked to some of the fire victims. what are they saying? >> reporter: right now, arson investigators are here on the scene -- scene are trying to figure out if this is the case. when a woman came downstairs early this morning, she said the living room was filled with smoke and flames. she and her son ran out. this is video from the hayward fire department. crews say that the top and bottom floors of the apartment unit off dixon street and they got here. firefighters were able to knock it out within ten minutes and prevent it from spreading to other people's homes. the woman who lives here told us that she heard a crashing sound. she believes this fire was done on purpose. >> she describes somebody threw something through the window, may have been a cockt

problems this morning even though it's clear outside. we begin our storm coverage with ktvu's alex savidge. >> reporter: good morning. a lot of repair work to do out here. la fayette creek runs underneath this street. it flooded. that's us what caused the roadway to -- that's what caused the roadway to collapse. crews will be using this heavy equipment to execute the sinkhole created yesterday, dig debris out from the creek that overflowed yesterday. it was late in the afternoon on sunday, when the soil eroded and the pavement out here just gave way. utility lines that were impacted, a gas line had to be capped, and suerers created a -- sewers created a bypass. now, the cause of this collapse was a pipe that diverts creek water. neighbors told us they could hear it go. >> it sounded like a big thud. a big really, heavy -- it shook the ground. it was a big boom. >> reporter: so now the city is working on a long-term fix out here for this area, perhaps they will put in some sop find kind of -- some kind of a rack so they can catch a lot of the debris that tends to run down the creek when the

complete bay area news coverage, starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> and good morning. welcome to mornings on 2. i'm brian flores. >> i'm claudine wong. it's thursday, we want to start with breaking news we first reported at 4:30 this morning. the investigation is underway in a deadly police shooting in walnut creek. it happened hours ago and we are on creek side drive near 680 with the circumstances that led up to the shooting. >> reporter: police just wrapped up their latest briefing about 15, 20 minutes ago. we are getting new details, we have learned there are now multiple officers involved in this incident which wound up with an parent domestic violence suspect dead. investigators are still onto scene. the presence of police and sonoma -- contra kosta county deputies has decreased but we are learning that incident appears to have happened behind that brick fence you can see in the distance there. police say this may have started as a possible domestic violence incident that ended in gun fire. one suspect dead, nobody else hurt we have learned. we have learned the

are driving on roads through the storm. ktvu channel 2 news. >> there are also problems in the late -- in the north bay. folks waking up due to power outages. new video shot earlier this morning. numerous trees and power lines down. sonoma county could receive up to 4 inches of rain today. the russian river is expected to flood tomorrow morning. people haven't been filling us to invade. certainly, plenty of chatter amongst the folks about potential flooding. many people are choosing to wait to see what happens with the river today. >> everybody's talking about it. this is minor compared to how it has been. >> in 1986, the russian river rose to 49.5 feet, more than 17 feet above flood level. you will get as high as 32 and a half feet tomorrow. flood stage is 32 feet. >> volunteers of the salvation army bell ringers covering after a freak mall accident. a large chunk of sheet rock from the ceiling entrance fell on top of her. it happened outside jcpenney. the woman was taken to the hospital that should be okay. investigators are trying to determine if heavy rainfall caused the damage.

marriage heads to the supreme court. >> complete bay your news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> welcome. it's saturday december 8th. >> cold start to the weekend. let's check in with rosemary. foggy. >> right. you foggy for some, frigid for most and slightly warmer by the afternoon. we are waking up with mostly clear skies, some of us to near freezing and some of that fog is dense. i will take a look at it coming up. >> two teens were arrested overnight after a pipe bomb was set off inside a mailbox in a neighborhood. we are live now with more on the damage caused. >> reporter: it all started a report about an explosion in pleasant hill, close to the sun valley mall. what exploded was a pipe bomb somebody putin side that mailbox. that's what is left of it. nobody in the neighborhood was hurt but several residents reported seeing a red suv leaving the area. police spotted that suv outside college park high school and found another pipe bomb inside the vehicle. the bomb squad came out to set off the second pipe bomb. nobody was hurt. police found five teens w
